We’ve been working really hard the last couple months to build out the automation capabilities of Sendwithus. You know what that means: more integrations! We’ve teased these two before but they are both now generally available: Zapier and Segment.
As of today, both of these integrations are live and available to everyone, but you may notice they’re both tagged as beta features. That’s because we still need to hear from you on how you want to use these features and whether or not we’re doing a good job of making that happen.
We’re still putting together the full documentation but, for the eager, we’ll go through a bit of a quick launch guide to get you up and running with both of these fine services.
What is it? (jump to Zapier)
Segment.com is a sort of integration hub. The idea is that you replace all of your internal hooks with segment calls, then flip a switch to send that data to your analytics program, crm, help desk, etc. We make use of both the identify and track call (more on that in the Segment documentation.) But, if you’re not already set up with Segment, you should head over to their getting started guide before venturing forth. If you are using Segment, a Sendwithus integration is basically the flip of a switch! Ok there’s a bit of setup involved. But I promise it’s not that much. When you flip that switch, you’ll get a settings pane, asking you for an API key and an Integration ID. So the first step is going to be setting up a new API key in Sendwithus. You can do this from the Technical Stuff > API Settings menu in the app. Then just click “Create New API Key.”
Paste that API key back in the setting pane in Segment, and let’s get an integration ID. First go to Advanced > Automation > Triggers from the sidebar.
You’ll be greeted by our wonderful welcome screen. Just click on “Manage Integrations” and select Segment.com. Then create a new segment integration and give it a name so you can keep track of dev vs. production.
You should drop back to the integrations menu, then click the copy button on next to the key
And paste it back in the Segment.com settings pane.
Once you save your settings, you’re good to go. We’ll have more detail on crafting your triggers later on.
What is it?
Zapier is a sort of plug-and-play switchboard for APIs. We’ve written before about some of the fun ways we use it internally, including the integration that almost got my Slack API integration privileges revoked. Now you can add/update customers, send templates, start/stop drip campaigns, and send to segments from Zapier triggers (e.g. WuFoo Form entries, Google Docs new spreadsheet lines, Eventbrite RSVPs, etc.)
Next you’ll have to connect Zapier to your Sendwithus account, so just head over to Advanced > API Settings and create a new API Key.
And paste it into Zapier
And you’re all set. Just pick out some triggers and get hacking! We’ll have a couple of examples coming out soon, so keep an eye on the blog.
And, as always, if you have any problems just hit us up at support@sendwithus.com, we’re always happy to help.
